Accessory Du Jour: The Velvet Cushion

Need a quick fix for the sofa, bed or armchair – something current + massively on trend? You need look no further than the must-have soft furnishing accessory of 2015 – the velvet cushion!  They’re everywhere, so accessibility to this trend is fab + affordable for almost any budget.  Not only am I swooning over every version of the soft, plush shams I can get my mitts on – the array of colours is phenomenal; the key colours of the moment in interiors are undoubtedly blush pink, dark greys with a hint of vibrant, yolky yellows – taking influence from scandi design or a spectrum of blue hues signalling in the Summer months, reminiscent of Morrocan/Greek holidays, bright skies + crystal waters.

So far I’ll admit to having personally sampled three different brands of velvet cushions…

The selection at IKEA wasn’t huge, just a few pink + grey choices in 50x50cm , but starting at £6 a cover it was worth grabbing a few (as one does when visiting IKEA!).

I couldn’t resist the Velvet Buttoned Cushions from The French Bedroom Company, which adds another dimension to the otherwise flat collection offered elsewhere.

I came across the H&M velvet collection when on one of my many trawls through their “New  Homewares” tab – again, the obligatory pink + greys prevailed, however, there was also a myriad of other colours to create a vast colourway to suit almost any interior.

A few other super velvetty must-haves I’ve found on my travels (read: yet again trawling the internet for fab interiors) include…

Now- just to keep the kids, dogs + cat away from all these lovely cushions!

I love those Graham & Green ones – linen backing is just such a lovely combination.
I bought a couple from H&M and then popped a Liberty covered button in the middle, threading through the cushion to make it all yummy and plump. It looks great with the massive sheepskin cushion behind it.
