It was only last week I was waxing lyrical about being real when it comes to being a mummy – how for every pic that makes it to my instagram feed there have been at least 10 almost identical images, just not quite so flattering. With 5 boys in tow from 0-13 getting everyone in one frame, looking in roughly the same direction and without flipping the bird, is nothing short of a miracle . So, on these rare occasions I plaster that bloody pic everywhere in the same way a fashionista might brandish her black, snakeskin Berkin bag she found in a charity shop for £4.99! Yes, that’s how I feel about the wonder of a picture featuring all 5 boys, in some semblance of “acceptable” – like I’ve stumbled across a £30k bag for a couple of quid!View Post
Gone are the days of subtle messages in our homes, there’s an interiors trend for saying it how it is and in some cases, quite literally the writing’s on the wall. Maybe we’ve become so comfortable with narrating our lives on social media, giving little stories to the freeze-frames of our moments and finding relevant hastags to get the word out there. We’re using artwork, lighting, banners, cushions, blankets, crockery and even door mats to share our family motto, beliefs, uplifting quotes or a one word mood. Never has the trend for saying it like it really is been so prevalent and I simply love it! Just think of all the captioning we’d have to do if our pictures didn’t contain words too!!
I’ve slowly started to notice that more and more typography is creeping into my interior decor (along with the monochrome landscape – oh black and white it easy with kids!), I’m not sure whether its the living with all the boys that means I literally have to spell stuff out for them. I’ve also adopted a lot of monogramming – again, maybe this is due to the kids, If I don’t stamp my initials on it I might very well forget who I am completely in a sleep deprived stupor!View Post
A tale of being supportive, loving and open with other mamas in the tribe! We’re all in it together – let’s keep it real!View Post
Dear my gorgeous 5 month baby boy with his first cold,
I know you’ve been feeling pretty grotty these past 4 days and you’re probably wondering why your lovely, little, healthy world has turned upside down so that you can’t sleep, it hurts to eat and mummy’s cuddles have never felt so good. The nastiness you’ve started to feel is what we call a cold; there is no cure and the only answer we are given is: ride it out! I want you to know, as your mummy, I wish, so very much I could take all the awfulness you’re feeling right now away but rest assured it won’t last long.View Post
So, the kids are back at school (or very nearly for some), it’s time to regain a little more sense of a mummy routine again – sigh! Yes, no more endless mornings of dressing gowns and cups of tea whilst we decide what to do for today’s entertainment – no, no – it’s out the door promptly at 8.35am – dressed (well kinda!) and ready to go for the day (again, kinda!!). It was a little while before the summer hols commenced that I finally thought it was time to make The Only Girl a little easier on the eye (that’s the site, not me!), so took myself on a “blogcation” to the breakfast bar and got cracking with this fab team to turn my blog into my tech haven, aaannndddd ta-da!
But what would an official re-launch be without some sort of goodie-bag or swag?! We all know we only really go to launches to get our mitts on the freebies – so this is no different. As a thank you for sticking with me throughout the baron, behind the scenes weeks with no new posts; as a well done for making it through the summer holidays; as a pick-me up to the not being able to laze on the sofa with the kids watching crap until 10am and as the goodie-bag to this re-launch (bonus, you didn’t even need to leave your house or put on fresh mascara) – I’ve got together with some of my favourite shops to bring you some loveliness!
So, let’s cut to the chase, as that’s why you’re really here – this is what you could win by heading over HERE!View Post
