Living The Dream – On Telly

This morning over on the ol’ instagram, I proudly shared that our family had been featured in a real life TV ad. Don’t go anywhere – this is not a shameless plug for said ad or the company I spend 30 seconds waxing lyrical about during my starring role. Instead, I want to give a little “don’t give up” to the mamas who might have that nasty voice in their head saying “jack it in – it’s not worth it – you’re crap”, like I too often do. But if you do just want to see the ad – head to the bottom!

I started this blog nearly 20 months ago whilst riding the euphoric wave of winning a blog award for my day job. I decided it couldn’t be that hard to churn out some readable content on a regular basis with a few pretty pics slapped on for good aesthetic measure. I initially found myself writing about interiors – that was all I knew. I lived, worked and breathed interiors – so why on earth would I write about anything else? I’ll tell you why, because it felt forced, unnatural and bloody boring (note to self, start a more sweary interiors blog!). Meanwhile, I’d happily harp on about motherhood, the gripes of having 5 boys et al to anyone who’d offer a vague giggle, so I started writing about the wonders of my everyday life – and finally, people actually “got me”!

What I’m trying to say is, this journey had to start somewhere and it’s had a fair share of shitty/I-wanna-cry-and-eat-cookies-continually moments, along with some jump  up and down, nearly weeing myself ones too. There were (and still are) days when no one would comment, like, read or share; days when no emails arrived; days when I’d have to fathom how to make a bum-wipe sound exciting to earn a buck. But then there’s days, whilst still in your PJs, a soggy Raisin Wheat under foot and a testing toddler launching a dried apricot at your unwashed hair – that you catch your mug on the TV, looking glam in the latest AO.com tv advert. All of a sudden, you feel like you might actually be doing an alright job. So, without further ado, here’s my 30 seconds of “you can do it girl!”… we’ve all gotta get our kicks somewhere!

Being tortured by suffering Tiny Pop during the Sunday afternoon slump, was so pleased to see your smiley face pop up during an ad break.

    Love reading your blog xx

I’m glad I can liven up the saccharine TV with my enthusiastic dishwasher chat x

I always wondered whether the families in these adverts were real or just a group of actors cobbled together for continuity purposes. Now I know! Well done and thanks for sharing.

Just saw the ad whilst binge watching Disney junior with my toddler. I rewound and showed my husband and said ‘See! This is why you keep going and get good at what you’re doing!!’ So encouraging, thanks mama!x

I wouldn’t go as far as to say I’m good… but I bloody refuse to give up! Having an awesome community of readers, followers and friends genuinely makes it all worth while… perks like this are bonuses. Don’t give up mama, even when bed seems like a much more appealing option ???
